In 2019 the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations recommended that the Supreme Court amend the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct to include Rule 8.4(g), which would
prohibit attorneys from manifesting bias or prejudice, or engaging in discrimination or harassment “in the practice of law” on the basis of, inter alia, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, and ethnicity. On June 8, 2020, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on June 8, 2020 adopted the new Rule.
The Philadelphia Bar Association, together with the Barristers Association, present this virtual ethics CLE to provide diversity training for attorneys on LGBTQ and intersectional identities that will be vital for Pennsylvania attorneys once Rule 8.4(g) becomes effective. The CLE will also address the passage of Rule 8.4(g) and the lawsuit recently filed to prevent its implementation.
