2020 Greater Philadelphia HRC Gala
On Saturday, February 29, 2020, many of our members attended the Greater Philadelphia HRC Gala.
Attendees heard current HRC President Alphonso David speak about HRC’s mission for 2020, which is so critical to this next election. Of course, as a Temple University Beasley School of Law alumnus, Mr. David is familiar with Philadelphia, but he is also a nationally-recognized civil rights attorney. He is also the first person of color ever to fill the role of HRC President. In addition, a number of local lawmakers were in attendance, including U.S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon, State Representatives Brian Sims, Larry Farnese, Malcolm Kenyatta (PA’s first openly gay legislator of color), and Attorney General Josh Shapiro, among others.
The Gala’s Greater Philadelphia Honoree was the Morris Home, the nation’s first ever recovery home geared toward transgender and non-binary persons. You can read more about the Morris Home (or donate to their cause) here.
The Philadelphia LGBTQ Bar Association, which chaired a table at the event, would also like to thank the only law firms in the area who sponsored the HRC Gala for supporting our community in this way: Duane Morris LLP, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and Pepper Hamilton LLP.
